pitch wars

Hello, future possible PitchWars mentee!

Welcome to my mentor page!

  • I love goats!

  • I was a PW17 mentee.

  • My PW novel, ANYA AND THE DRAGON, was published in 2019 and won the Sydney Taylor Book Honor for middle grade.

  • I'm a mental health professional.

  • I have ADHD.

  • I'm a veteran!

  • I live in Utah.

  • I love to hike, bake, and play Dungeons and Dragons (bards4eva).

  • I have 2 loud kids and a dog named Sansa Bark.

  • Above all else, I want this to be a great, enjoyable experience for us both!

  • I'm not a big fan of emails, so my preferred method of contact is in chats, DMs, Discord, etc. Now that video chats are a normal thing, those are a great option!

  • There will be manuscript and writing feedback, natch, but also advice on publishing in general, querying, professional strategies, etc.

  • This is YOUR story, and I'm just here to make suggestions based on my own experiences in publishing! If something I say is way off, you don't have to listen to me.

  • However, a mentee who refuses to work with me on any suggestions at all is probably not a good fit for me.

  • The Inquisitor's Tale (unique framing device!)

  • The Book of Esther (alternate history WOWWWW)

  • A Wolf For a Spell (cute take on Russian fairy tales!)

  • The Simple Art of Flying (made me laugh out loud AND cry in like the same chapter!)

  • Anything other than MG

  • Contemporary setting

    • Except if it's a portal fantasy and the MC is about to get sucked into a fantasy world!

  • Royalty as main characters

    • I'm kinda over it!

  • Gratuitous violence

  • Performative diversity

    • To me, this means including a BIPOC character for "diversity points," and not putting in the work of exploring what being a BIPOC would look like in your world.
