Review: We Were Liars

Title: We Were Liars Author: E. Lockhart Genre: Contemporary Series: none

Blurb A beautiful and distinguished family. A private island. A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy. A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive. A revolution. An accident. A secret. Lies upon lies. True love. The truth.

What I Liked The voice in this was great! And the mystery hits very suddenly, in an authentic way. The group of friends—the Liars—is fun to read and fun to follow along with.

What I Would Have Liked to See I’ve been wracking my brain here and I can’t come up with anything! Any little nitpicks I have aren’t worth mentioning. Maybe I would like to see a different ending, because it hurt my heart so much! But no. The ending is perfect, if sad.

My Favorite! The ending hurt so bad, but it couldn’t have ended any other way. Such a satisfying heartbreak!

TL;DR A story about loss and difficult family dynamics, with a compelling voice and a bittersweet ending. This is a great read for teens and adults alike!
