Atomic
Magicians
fists full of sun
America and the USSR use atomic magicians up like disposable batteries in a desperate attempt to win the Cold War, and only a tenuous pact between a Byelorussian soldier and an American magician stands a chance at stopping mutually assured destruction.

Haaaaaappy New Year!

I mean, the Jewish New Year is in September. So uhh I already celebrated that. But! That New Year, for me, is more about the kind of person I'm going to be in the upcoming year. And the New Year in January is more about the physical goals I want to accomplish. So this is when I do planning for my year as a businessy author person!

One of my goals is to finish drafting FISTS FULL OF SUN and get it ready for submission to editors. This was originally drafted as a standalone novel where *spoilers* everyone died at the end.

And my agent read it and her feedback was, "I like these characters too much to be okay with everyone dying. Also, this world and this magic is too cool for a standalone. Let's make it a trilogy!"

And I went, "Boo wah no okay fine."

I'm really glad she talked me into making this a trilogy, because now that I've gotten it outlined, I think it's going to be a great story!

I'm on a sort-of social media hiatus until it's done being drafted. By "sort-of hiatus" I mean I'm still using my robot butler to schedule posts so the algorithm doesn't forget about me, but I'm trying to keep my human self from scrolling the timeline for hours.

I finally joined uhh everyone else in the universe and got a Spotify. And I made a playlist for this book. Because... I'm working on it again in earnest! Woohoo!

Here's my Atomic Magicians Spotify playlist!

I hope you like extremely dramatic music and Soviet-era patriotic anthems, because uhhhh that's all it is.
the beginning

I started this book over a year ago while editing my Big Jewish Fantasy and buddy-bingeing HBO's CHERNOBYL with a friend (and just screaming nonstop). High fantasy and Soviet nuclear programs combined in my head, and one day I asked myself, "What if the Cold War was fought with nuclear magic?"

And I started writing this book.
